Title: Home Modifications: Promoting Saftey and Function

Home Modifications 3 Day Course designed for clinicians helping elders and persons with disabilities continue to live in the comfort of their homes. Sponsored by Education Resources Inc.

Day One focuses on gaining an understanding of the industry, theoretical concepts impacting home modifications, and home assessment tools.

Day Two provides in depth exposure to the practical application of home modifications. This includes current and emerging products and services, practical experience designing an accessible space and useful resouces.

Day Three is designed for those interested in opening their own Home Modification Business. The course focuses on how to start a business, writing a business plan, securing funding and launching a successful business.

The course is designed and conducted by Marnie Renda MEd OTR/L, CAPS. Ms Renda is an Independent Living Specialist working in the Greater Cincinnati Area. She has worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years with 10 years of experience as an occupational therapists. Ms Renda is the owner and founder of Destination Home LLC helping elders and persons with disabilities continue to live in the comfort of their homes.

In addition to being an occupational therapist, Ms Renda is a Certified Aging In Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders. Additionally, she has completed the rigorous Executive Certificate in Home Modifications for the University of Southern California. This extensive course provides training on home modifications, coalition building, funding sources and other topics relevant to home modifications.

Ms Renda is also an Adjunct Professor at the Xavier University Graduate Occupational Therapy Program and Cincinnati State Technical College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Her courses focus on home modifications and assistive technology.

Ms Renda is a consultant to organizations seeking create functional and accessible spaces. These include apartment complexes, senior housing, Independent Living Facilities and other facilities designed for community use.  Currently, Ms Renda is the Project Manager for the Cincinnati State “Aging In Place Occupational Therapy Home” scheduled to launch in the Fall of 2012. The home will showcase how a home can be modified to enable elders and persons with disabilities to continue to live at home. This includes modifications from the “Simple to the Spectacular”.
